Niki Behrikis Shanahan was born and brought up
in Massachusetts.  She currently resides there with
her husband, Jack, and her two cats, Luke and
Joey.

It wasn’t until she was 35 years old that she
adopted her first pet, Pete, the cat that was the
inspiration for the book “There Is Eternal Life For
Animals.”  Pete was 8 years old when the
Shanahans adopted him from a neighbor and 21 years old when he
passed away.  Pete really chose them, as many animals do, by meowing
outside the door of their condominium to let him in.  They did let him in,
and it was one of the best things they ever did!  They would invite him in
and he would visit regularly until the bond was great between them.
Then they adopted him from their neighbor.  When Pete was 18 years
old, and the only pet in the house for 10 years, he warmly accepted a
new feral cat, Luke, as his brother.   Luke was one of several stray cats
that Niki fed and looked after on a regular basis.  Then the Shanahans
moved to another neighborhood where they have seen very few outdoor
cats.  However, Joey showed up looking scruffy and in need of a home a
little before Pete passed away. They took him in just after Pete went
home to heaven.

This website was established in 2003 and is dedicated to animals and
pets.  It includes a focus on animal afterlife from a Christian perspective.
You’ll find that it revolves around:

1.  Pets and Animals
2.  People Who Love Animals
3.  Biblical Appreciation

It is a support for pet owners and animal lovers in everyday life, as well
as during the time when we have to let go of our beloved companions
until we are united again in Heaven.  Although there is tremendous grief
and pain at the loss of our beloved animal companions, we also
remember that God has provided the gift of eternal life for all the
animals.  All of God’s children can look forward to being reunited with
their animal companions again someday.  When that wonderful day
arrives, we know that it will never, never end!  The Bible says that when
we are absent from the body, we are present with the Lord. (II
Corinthians, Ch. 5)  Although we feel the pain when a loved one departs,
it is far from the end.  In fact, it is the beginning of a beautiful life of
eternity with God the way He originally planned it.  Jesus said, “in My
Father’s House are many mansions, if it were not so I would have told
you.  I go to prepare a place for you and will come back again, that where
I am you may be there also.” (Paraphrase John 14:1-4)

At eternalanimals.com you’ll find articles, stories, news, health and

There is Eternal Life for Animals
MIDWEST BOOK REVIEW SAYS - OUTSTANDING!, July
22, 2003

by Shirley Priscilla Johnson - Author/Reviewer
I was excited when I received this book to review, actually, I asked the
author for a copy which is something I rarely do.

If any of you have been following my reviews you know I am a Christian
and an animal lover. This year has been a tough one for me personally,
as I have lost 5 dogs and to me this was like losing family members.
I needed to read this book and I was not disappointed.

Is God truly interested in animals and what happens to them for eternity?
The author has the answer to this question for you, with countless
Scripture references, showing our loving Creator does indeed care about
all of His creation, even your beloved Fideo.Thank God!

As an Ordained Minister of the Gospel I have always known that animals
would be a part of eternity but never took the time to research the
Scriptures on this subject as author Niki Shanahan has. I tip my hat to
her for doing an outstanding job in bringing to light the truth of eternity
for all living things.

If your heart is broken because you have lost your beloved pet, this book
will bring you peace. If you question where animals go when they die, this
book will quiet your mind and bring a smile to your lips. A book that can
be read with the heart and with the intellect, this is a must read for all that
love animals and for those who have stepped so low as to be cruel to
God's creation. After reading this book you may just change your
actions, I hope so.

Highly recommended reading, top of the line research. Excellent,
Outstanding and Life changing! Good job Ms. Shanahan! Thank you
Review by Laurel Johnson (Nebraska USA)
Based on scripture, Christians believe all creatures
have body, soul, and spirit, that Heaven is a very real
place, and that God breathed the breath of life and
spirit into animals as well as humans. Those who love
their pets will find great comfort in this beautiful book,
Christian and non-Christian readers alike.
The Rainbow Bridge: Pet Loss Is
Heaven's Gain
Regardless of your spiritual beliefs, the comfort and hope delivered in
this book are real and tangible.

Our modern world can be chaotic and frightening. Man's inhumanity to
fellow humans is often horrifying, leaving us numb and sometimes
cynical. A majority of us find comfort in the unconditional love and
devotion of our pets. When a pet dies, we mourn, often losing ourselves
in black depression at that loss. Niki Behrikis Shanahan has grieved in
such a way and understands our sorrow but takes comfort in the
knowledge that lost pets are scampering in Heaven, waiting to be
reunited with their human companions. Chapter by chapter, the author
offers hopeful solutions to our sadness and loss, offering scriptural proof
that animals and humans are important to God and are not truly dead
when they die. She encourages us with miraculous stories of near death
and death bed visions of animal companions thriving in their heavenly
home. Step by step she leads readers out of depression and into the
light of hope.

Whether dead or alive, animal companions live in our hearts. They give
us joy in a world that is rarely joyful. When they die, their spirit continues
to live. That is the author's message in a wonderful book I highly
recommend.
